Problem: Matomo tracks your own visits to your web site

Solution: Set the Matomo tracking cookie in your browser

If you recently installed Matomo and you're wondering how you can make it so that Matomo won't track your own web site visits, then you've come to the right place.

Matomo makes it very easy to make it so that Matomo will ignore your own visits to your web site and not track them.

Just watch the video on this page or follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to Matomo
  2. Click the gear icon (Administration) on the top right of the screen
  3. On the left menu go to Personal >> Settings
  4. Scroll all the way down the page to where it says "Exclude your visits using a cookie"
  5. Click the link that says "Click here to set a cookie that will exclude your visits on websites tracked by Matomo on yoursite.com"

That's it. Now your browser will have a cookie that will let Matomo know that you don't want it to track your visits. Remember to do this on all devices and browsers that you don't want to be tracked by Matomo.
