Things You'll Need: house cleaning materials, airtight food containers, silicon caulk, peppered powdered herbs, some water, one cigar, some citrus fruits, a jar of honey, gloves

  1. The first step to get rid of ants in your home is to keep your home clean always. Figure out what causes the ants to attack your home and get rid of it. If it is food, then clean all your tables after eating or snacking and take out the trash at night. Place all left overs in tight - sealing containers and place all other foods (like fruits and vegetables) inside the refrigerator instead of the kitchen or dining table.
  2. Have all your meals on one (or two) designated areas only. This means eating or snacking in the kitchen counter or dining table only. This way, you only leave or scatter crumbs in two places only, making it a lot more easier to clean.
  3. Don't leave any stagnant water at home. Ants get thirsty like you, too.
  4. Seal the cracks and small openings in your home using silicon caulk.
  5. Use herbs like red chili pepper, paprika, peppermint and spread them on ant trails. By doing so, you can prevent ants from moving further inside your home.
  6. Your garden might have some other insects that may seduce the ants. Aphids, mealybugs and white flies are just a few types of insects that secrete honeydew, which ants love. Exterminate these insects and you're one step to exterminating ants as well.
  7. Ant trail equals anthill. If you are observant and patient enough to follow the trail that the ants make, you too will be lucky to find their own home. Once you do, here are the things you should do.
  8. Get yourself some citrus fruits (of any kind). Eat the fruit or throw it away, but make sure that you keep its peeling. Blend the citrus peel and put a small amount of water. The blended peelings of citrus should take care of the ants once you pour them over to the anthill.
  9. You can also drown the ants by pouring boiling water over the ant hills. For a stronger dose, try boiling a cigar along with the water. The nicotine content in the water will knowck them down even more.
  10. Do the steps again until you're completely satisfied that you've gotten rid of all the ants.

Tips:

- If you can't imagine yourself killing those poor little ants, then here's an act of kindness that can work as well. Get a bottle or jar of honey and put it up a tree. The ants will be thankful to you, and will stay away from your home - hopefully.

- Keep your house clean as much as possible. Crumbs always lure ants to your home.

- The most permanent solution to eliminating ants inside your home is tracking its base which is the anthill. Once you destroy it, ants will never have a reason to stay any longer.

- Some edible stuff like dried rice, corn meal and wheat flour can be given to the ants. They eat these things, but they soon die after because they cannot digest these. It's a better alternative to squishing them or pouring hot water on them.

Warnings:

- Be careful when using spicy herbs. Your children might come across them.

- When you decide on boiling cigar don't forget to wear a protective gear like a pair of gloves to prevent contact with nicotine.

- Be prepared to do these things over again since the ants might come back after some time.
