Sometimes it's nice to have a cheap VPS for projects where 100% availability isn't necessary. Sometimes you just need something cheap for other reasons.

For instance, maybe you want to create your own VPN server and you don't want to spend more than $3 per year. Or maybe you have other reasons that you don't want to spend a lot. 

For these situations, when I need a cheap VPS, I usually head over to LowEndBox.com. They regularly post deals on cheap virtual private servers, some as cheap as $3 per year, like what I've mentioned above.

LowEndBox also offers tutorials on how to set up a web server, or a VPN, or other kinds of servers, on your cheap VPS server.
