Foot warts are usually found at the underside of the foot. The average foot wart is about 1cm in diameter and mostly quite round like a circle. The color is generally paler than the surrounding skin. Most of the warts have tiny black dots at the centre and they have a tendency to build groups of warts called cluster. Another characteristic for warts at the bottom of the foot is that they are generally quite flat.

Foot warts can in some cases cause pain as the constant pressure exerted on them when you walk. This constant pressure often lead to a tendency for the warts to grow back inside the foot. Plantar wart is another name on a foot wart and the medical name for this type is 'verruca plantaris' or merely 'verruca'.

What causes foot warts? Now we know it is the human papilloma virus, HPV, that causes foot warts as well as other types of warts. Anybody can get this virus as it enters your skin from little cuts or scratches. This virus is very contagious and many has been infected during training or taking a shower in the common area in sports clubs, gyms etcetera. You can get the virus simply by touching another person that carries the virus.

The papilloma virus dwells in a wet and warm environment so bathrooms and swimming pool areas are excellent habitats for this virus. Hygiene is very important for these kind of areas and you should always take appropriate caution and if possible do not walk bare footed in these areas.

If you have this type of warts you should be careful and not scratch it because then you can spread the virus to other parts of your body. If you get warts on one foot, be careful and do not scratch it with your other foot as this may increase the risk of getting a foot wart on your other foot too.

Fortunately there are many types of treatments that can help you get rid of your warts. Wart removal products can be found on the internet, over the counter as well as surgical wart removal treatments.
