edit: I found out that you can disregard the below instructions and just simply run:

 

sudo apt-get install cinnamon

edit: but I think the following instructions might give you a more recent version.

I switched to Ubuntu 16.04 from Linux Mint and boy do I miss the Cinnamon desktop that comes with Linux Mint. Lucky for me (and you) it is easy to install Cinnamon Desktop on Ubuntu 16.04.

Do the following commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install cinnamon

That's it. Now log out of your Desktop session and log in again after choosing Cinnamon as your desktop session.
