It's nice to feel like I'm using a real computer again
January 28, 2019
I've been using Windows 7 on my Toshiba M200 tablet PC because I like to make use of the superior handwriting recognition built right in to Windows 7. Every thing else about Windows I can pretty much do without though.
Having been a Linux user for a long time, I've noticed some things I like about the way Linux does things.
- Gnome - Gnome lets me get things done. I haven't found any real good programs for Virtual Desktops on Windows that accomplish things as well as Gnome. I also like how with Gnome I can easily place one window above all others. With Windows, to get such effects, I've had to switch to SharpEnviro, which still isn't nearly as good as Gnome.
- Decent teminal emulator - Windows doesn't have a teminal emulator or the command line functionality of bash.
- Eye Candy - Aero - whoop-tee-doo, has nothing on Compiz fusion.
I still have to use Windows for most Tablet PC functionality, but if I'm not using a stylus for anything, if I need to get any programming type stuff done, I switch it to Linux.
