I always thought those distraction-free writing programs were pretty neat. The ones that cover the whole desktop and don’t clutter the space with buttons and menu objects. Something much more like writing on an old typewriter. Nothing to get in the way, visually.

Something exactly like that is what I found for my Linux laptop. It’s a basic writing program that doesn’t allow anything to get in the way of focusing on what I’m writing at hand. Just what I needed.

It’s called FocusWriter and I installed it from the software center in Linux mint. If you use Ubuntu, then you can probably find it in the Ubuntu software center.

I noticed that you can save your writing in OpenDocument Text, Rich Text, or plain text formats, there’s basic support for simple formatting like bold, underline, and italics, and it’s them-able.

FocusWriter is also completely free and it is distraction-free.
