Recently, I had a spot on my face between my nose and my eye. At first I thought it was a "zit". For about two months I kept picking at this "zit". It was getting larger every day. And I could not get anything to come out of it.

I went to my son was doctor's appointment. The doctor looked at it and said it looked like basal cell carcinoma. Basal cell carcinoma is:

"the most common type of skin cancer. It rarely metastasizes or kills, but it is still considered malignant because it can cause significant destruction and disfigurement by invading surrounding tissues." ( Basal cell carcinoma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. (n.d.). . Retrieved August 25, 2009, from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_cell_carcinoma )

I scheduled an appointment with the dermatologist.

The doctor referred me to a surgeon. The surgeon removed a lump that measured 1 cm 0.8 cm. They will send it in to the lab for testing. The night before I went to the surgeon I was picking at the lump and some puss did come out of it.

After doing some research on skin cancer, I found that basal cell carcinoma does not have puss, but squamous cell carcinoma does.

Basal cell carcinoma is nothing to worry about. If it is a big spot they will want to remove it, but basal cell carcinoma will not spread to other areas of the body. But if it is squamous cell carcinoma, they will remove it and other cancer treatments may be required, as this type of skin cancer can travel to other parts of the body.
