UV Light Treatment For Eczema

February 10, 2010

UV light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is a treatment for eczema that involves light which interacts with the body's immune system.

While researching different methods to treat eczema, I came across one particular eczema treatment which sounded interesting and which I have never heard of. This treatment is called phototherapy and sometimes it's called UV light therapy.

PUVA is another term for a light therapy also referred to as chemophototherapy which is also used to treat eczema.

You might be curious though as to how light treatment could be effective in treating eczema.

"UV light of certain wavelengths affects the immune system. By carefully exposing patients to these UV wavelengths for specified amounts of time, dermatologists are able to prevent the exaggerated immune response that causes the inflammation."

So it seems that there is a somewhat lesser known type of eczema treatment using light.
