I mean, there's got to be something that I've talked about on twitter that contained some popular yet obscure search term that could generate a good amount of traffic. Right?
Well, maybe you might not think so, but in 4,810 tweets of inanity, there's gotta be something good.
So I'm doing what I should have done all along. That is, publish my content on my own site, not on somebody else's.
No, I'm not going to use one of the now available "twitter clones" out there to integrate microblogging into this web site. Instead I'm just going to use tt_news, an extension for TYPO3 that I'm already familiar with.
What I've done is created a separate folder for storing these "tweets" which I'm going to call "small talk" because I hate the words "tweet" and "twitter".
So, yes, the image there just shows a new folder I created (uid=798) called "Small Talk". That's the folder that I'll store all of my "tweets" (man, I hate that word) in.
Now and important thing is that I don't want all of these short articles to clutter up my home page, so I'll keep my tt_news storage folder id set as 38, which is my "Main News Storage" folder. I'll include a section in the sidebar where I'll have an instance of tt_news with the storagepid constant set at 798, so links to my "tweets" will be visible and people can click on them and read what I had for lunch.
Also, another reason for having those "Small Talk" messages in a separate folder is because they're going to need a different tt_news single template; they wouldn't look just right using the same tt_news single template used for regular, longer, articles. I created a special extension that decides on what tt_news template to use based on which folder a news article is stored in.
I'm glad I'm doing this. I have gotten a good deal of traffic from twitter at times, but it isn't sustained traffic. And I'm willing to bet that "tweeting" on my own site would produce a greater amount of long term website traffic.
