How to open tar.gz files

Here's the simple way to how to open tar.gz files using the command line in Linux or Unix.

Let's assume that you have a file named Surprise.tar.gz and you want to extract it's contents. The simple command to open this file and extract it's contents is this:

  1. tar zxvf Surprise.tar.gz

That's it. There's nothing more to do.
