I think the Windows Subsystem for Linux is a great step forward for those who use Windows Desktops but need linux tools. I thought it would be great if a Linux Desktop worked with the Windows Subsystem for Linux, and apparently it does because there's a guide to running XFCE on the Windows Subsystem for Linux. It requires that an X server be installed on windows to deliver the Linux GUI.
